A few days ago I had what initially seemed to be a relatively minor motorbike accident. I was riding through Randwick on a rainy night when the bike slipped on an oil patch.  I ended up in hospital (for a few hours) with a dislocated shoulder. I’ve spent the past few weeks seeing specialists and having intensive physio and been advised

that I won’t regain full strength for four months (unusual dislocation that none of doctors have seen (ball slipped underneath socket – arm locked straight up).

Unfortunately Randwick Council and my shoulder have conspired against me and I’m going to have to delay the start of the second leg of the trip until March 2007.

I need to be at full strength for the next leg. Relocating my unusual dislocation in the middle of Mongolia would mean locking my arm onto the bike and sliding backwards on my stomach like a snake to try and schlop it back in place. This is possible, but also stupid. Its taken me a while to accept this.

A four month delay effectively means a twelve month delay as I can’t leave on the next leg of the trip until Siberia melts once more.  

This has in turn driven me crazy. Its hard to put a dream on hold. I remain 100% committed to the trip and am staying optimistic about the upside of having another year to prepare. Already booked into a video/photography course, writing more freelance articles, exploring book options, attend more Youth Insearch camps, pursuing speaking opportunities and preparing the bike – as well as working part-time to keep myself fed and provide y'all with some interactive entertainment at your fingertips. Anyone want to give me a job?!
